Indian Primary Market Shows Strong Performance Despite Weak Main Indexes

The primary market in India performed well during the first six months of calendar year 2026. This activity happened despite a notable drop in the broader secondary equity market. Foreign portfolio investors pulled out more than ₹3.06 lakh crore from the secondary market during this timeframe. However, global institutional buyers invested around ₹21,630 crore into new public offerings.

Data from the stock exchanges shows that 27 companies launched public issues between January and June 2026. These corporate entities raised a total of ₹22,572 crore from public investors. Around 74% of these companies are currently trading at a higher price than their original issue price.

However, average listing day gains dropped to 1.3%. This single digit return represents the lowest listing day performance in 7 financial years. Some issues underperformed significantly. 

  • Shree Ram Twistex declined by 61.65% from its entry price. 
  • Innovision lost 43.93% of its value. 
  • Amir Chand Jagdish Kumar Exports dropped by 23.80%.

Upcoming IPO Pipeline

The pipeline for new stock issues remains large. Data shows that 157 companies already hold active regulatory approvals to raise ₹2.38 lakh crore. Another 77 firms want to secure clearance to raise nearly ₹1.58 lakh crore. The entire pipeline stands close to ₹4 lakh crore for the remaining months of the year.

Geopolitical events like the Iran war led to higher global oil prices earlier this year. This scenario impacted the secondary markets because India relies heavily on fuel imports. However, investment banks remain positive. 

  • Manipal Health Enterprises plans a 1.2 billion dollar issue this month. 
  • Indo-MIM also aims to raise 471 million dollars soon. 
  • Large public issues from Reliance Jio and the National Stock Exchange will test public demand later this year.
