Maharashtra Power Utility Prepares Massive MSEDCL IPO With Top Bankers

MSEDCL delivers power to nearly 35 million electricity consumers across Maharashtra. The state distribution utility ranks among the largest power suppliers in Asia.

The Maharashtra state cabinet approved a full financial restructuring plan for the utility. The state government will assume liabilities worth ₹330 billion from the discom. This financial assistance will clear bad balance sheet debt before MSEDCL IPO public listing.

The upcoming MSEDCL Share Sale aims to raise between 500 million dollars and 1 billion dollars. Parent organization MSEB Holding Company plans to divest a 10% equity stake. The public issue will include fresh share issues and an offer for sale.

MSEDCL shortlisted six investment banks as advisors for the transaction. SBI Capital Markets sits on the advisor panel. ICICI Securities will assist with the public offer. IIFL Capital Services joined the advisory group. HDFC Bank will manage financial structuring. IDBI Capital Markets was selected for consultancy work. Motilal Oswal Investment Advisors will also guide the issue process.

Indian companies raised 5.2 billion dollars through IPO in 2026. SBI Funds Management completed a major public issue worth one billion dollars. Large enterprises like Jio Platforms and the National Stock Exchange of India plan market entries soon. The proposed MSEDCL Share Sale will represent the first listing of a state electricity distribution company in India.
