WBPDCL IPO: West Bengal To List First State Power PSU

WBPDCL generates power across five operational generating stations. The company holds a total thermal capacity of 4,925 MW. It currently maintains a paid-up capital of 8,500 crore rupees. Its authorised capital stands at 20,000 crore rupees.

The utility performance improved sharply over recent years. It reported a net profit of 324 crore rupees in the financial year 2024-25. WBPDCL expects a net profit of nearly 800 crore rupees in 2025-26.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari made an official announcement in the state assembly. The state government will initiate the WBPDCL IPO within the next few months. WBPDCL will become the first state public sector undertaking in West Bengal to list on stock exchanges.

The state government will sell a small equity stake through this issue. The government will retain full ownership control of the corporation. Officials clarified that the move does not mean privatisation. WBPDCL will keep its public sector character.

The WBPDCL IPO will raise fresh equity capital for expansion projects. The company will use funds for new thermal power generation. It will also spend capital on upcoming renewable energy units. Senior officials will finalize the offer size after meeting financial consultants.
