What are BSE / NSE Market Timings, Trading Hours, Opening and Closing Time?

The standard trading hours for the major segments on the BSE and NSE are the same. The markets operate from Monday to Friday.

Pre-Open Session9:00 AM to 9:15 AM
Normal Trading Session (Continuous Trading)9:15 AM to 3:30 PM
Post-Closing Session3:40 PM to 4:00 PM

Pre-Open Session (9:00 AM – 9:15 AM):

  • 9:00 AM – 9:08 AM: Order entry, modification, and cancellation period. Orders placed here are used to determine the opening price.
  • 9:08 AM – 9:12 AM: Order matching and price calculation (no orders allowed). This determines the opening price for the day.
  • 9:12 AM – 9:15 AM: Buffer period to transition to the normal market.

Normal Trading Session (9:15 AM – 3:30 PM):

  • This is the main trading period where the price movement is continuous based on immediate supply and demand.

Closing Session (3:30 PM – 3:40 PM):

  • The market closing price is determined based on the weighted average of trades executed in the last 30 minutes (3:00 PM to 3:30 PM).

Post-Closing Session (3:40 PM – 4:00 PM):

  • A period where you can place buy/sell orders at the final closing price, primarily for delivery/settlement purposes.

Note: The timings for other segments like Commodity Futures (MCX) are much longer, typically running until 11:30 PM or 11:55 PM, depending on the time of the year.
